An Introduction to Bidding and Buying on Ebay

An Introduction to Bidding and Buying on Ebay

Have you noticed that whenever you open a newspaper, watch the TV or have a conversation, people seem to be talking about eBay? If you’ve never used it and you’ve no idea what it’s all about, then the chances are that you’re starting to feel a little left out. But don’t worry! This email contains everything you need to know about the basics of bidding and buying on eBay.

So What is eBay?

eBay is an online auction website – and not just any auction site, but the biggest one in the world. If you know how an auction works, then you already know how roughly eBay works. Someone adds something they want to sell to the site, and then buyers come along and place bids on it. The highest bid wins the item! It’s that simple.

eBay being an online auction makes a big difference, though. Buying and selling are not reserved for any elite. eBay accept almost any item, no matter how small, and will then advertise it on their sites all over the world. It’s a powerful combination of an auction and a slightly chaotic marketplace.

What is Bidding?

Bidding is when you say how much you will pay for an item in an auction. Bidding on eBay, however, doesn’t work in exactly the same way as a normal auction, at least in theory. On eBay, you tell the site what the maximum you are willing to pay for each item is, and then eBay places the bids on your behalf. That means you could say you were willing to pay up to 0 for something and only have to pay , if that was the highest maximum bid anyone else placed.

It’s not as complicated as it sounds – the best way to get used to it is to give it a try. First, the best thing to do is to go to the eBay website designed for your country. If you don’t know the address for it, just go to www.ebay.com and it will tell you there. Now, on the front page you should see a big box marked ‘search’: just type in anything that you’d like to buy there.

Wasn’t that easy? Now you should have a list of items for sale in front of you, along with how much people are currently bidding for them and the time when bidding ends for each item. If you click one of these, you can read the description, and then – if you’re happy with the item and happy to pay more than the current highest bidder is – you can bid!

How Do I Bid?

Go ahead and scroll down to the bottom of an item’s description page, and type the maximum you are willing to pay (your maximum bid) into the box. Then simply press the ‘place bid’ button – you will need to sign in once you press the button, or go through a quick registration process if you don’t have an eBay username).

If someone else’s maximum bid on that item is higher than yours, then eBay will tell you and give you the opportunity to bid again. Otherwise, you’re now the new highest bidder! All you need to do now is wait until the end of the auction – if someone else outbids you, then eBay will email you and you can bid again.

All sounds great, doesn’t it? But by now you might be wondering whether a site as chaotic as eBay can really be all that safe to buy from. That’s why the next email in this series will be about your rights when you buy from eBay.

Make Money Buying from eBay?

Make Money Buying from eBay?

Most people say the only way to make money from eBay is to sell on eBay.

They are almost right.

They are actually tons of other methods to profit using eBay, and selling is only one of it.

As oppose to selling, buying can be your first step to profit from eBay. And, it can be your starting point to have a successful online or offline business, provided proper selection and long term strategies are applied.

** What to Buy? **

I am a guy who don’t like to waste time, and I don’t like to make mistakes. So, when it comes to eBay, I wanted to know exactly what to buy in the first place? Buying the wrong items/services/products/businesses can be the starting point of losing money, not making money.

It is essential to know what sells before we buy. Make sense? Seriously, can anyone make money only by buying? No way! You have to sell it at some point to make money, to make a profit. So, to make sure that whatever you buy today will make money for you in later time, make sure it sells first.

Let me shares one of my experiences, I was looking to buy a portable dvd player sometimes ago, but I don’t like the normal flip-over type, which I can find it all over eBay. I got to know that there is a new design, a slot-in type, which retail stores are selling around $ 400 per pcs. That was too high and I know I can get it at a better price, and I started to look around at eBay for it.

I found the same product, which are selling at eBay around 0-350 (there are a few guys who are selling it that time), and this product are getting some good amount of bids. What does it tells you? this product sells! After that, I did some research using some other methods, and it tells me that it sells.

Now, I know that this product is worth buying, and I started buying it. The results? I ended up selling it at $ 300-350 per pcs, and my cost? 0 per piece. and when more people start selling and profits dropped, I stopped with this product.

What I did was with tangible products, where I can only buy and sell for profits per product (and sometimes, when the profits ain’t so good, I will have to drop the idea). The moral of the story? Do some researches before you decide to buy!

** Where to check? **

Now that you agree that knowing what to buy is important, you are asking, where you can get all these important information? the following is some of the tools that you can use especially when it comes to eBay:

1) Marketplace Research, eBay.com
2) Pulse.ebay.com
3) inventory.overture.com

These 3 places will give you ideas of what are selling well now; how much it was sold; and an indication of how many searches were there in overture networks that a particular terms had been searched in past months.

** How to Re-Brand? **

You may have a question at this stage, how do you going to distinguish yourself especially when some other people are selling the same thing? For example, in my case of DVD player?

Well, the answer is simple and straight forward: Most seller in eBay do not have a proper sales letter. A sales letter is very crucial when it comes to getting a bid to your products. And, this is one of the methods you brand, or re-brand.

The fact is, most business on sale does not have a proper sales letter, does not have a proper marketing campaign and does not have a clue how to do it. The simple thing is, find out these businesses, re-brand it with a sales letter, with a proper marketing campaign, and you can start making money out of it.

And, remember, you don’t even have to sell the business, you can actually making money using the business you bought, and it is over and over again.
Besides that, you can sign up for some affiliate programs with the relevant market where your web-business are, and you can promote their products and makes more money with your web-business.

** Conclusion? **

So, would you be agreeing with me that with proper planning and knowledge, buying from eBay can make money for you?

With proper research, intelligent decision, re-branding technique and marketing campaign, buying from eBay can always be as profitable as selling on eBay.

Learn to Sell on Ebay by Buying on Ebay

Learn to Sell on Ebay by Buying on Ebay

Want to learn to sell on eBay?

The absolute best way to become a successful eBay seller is to become a successful eBay BUYER first!

Think about it. By experiencing the auction process as a buyer, you’ll…

Learn a lot about how to make YOUR buyers happy when you start selling

Start building a positive feedback rating and your credibility as an eBayer by buying small items on eBay — ideally from potential future competitors

Scope see how your top competitors create and manage their auctions… so you can improve on their sales process to get more sales for YOU!

Of course, learning how to make money selling on eBay by buying on eBay is a bit different than shopping for a new camera. So here’s how to buy on eBay with the goal of learning to sell on eBay…

Step 1: Set up an eBay seller’s account, if you haven’t already.

Use this account to buy your items. Go to www.eBay.com/sell to sign up.

Step 2: Pay attention to the details of your shopping experience.

To start learning the ropes, pick an item you’d like to purchase (it doesn’t have to be expensive).

While you’re shopping, ask yourself the following questions:

What do you find appealing about certain auctions?

What draws your eye to a listing?

What elements of an auction persuade you to make a bid?

What information are sellers NOT including that you want to know as a buyer?

Record your impressions in a journal or computer document. Then when you’re ready to start selling in earnest, you can refer back to them — and steal all the goodies!

Step 3: Pay attention to the checkout process

Once you’ve spent some time browsing around eBay, and have found some items that you wouldn’t mind purchasing, it’s time to make a few bids. Pay attention to how the seller completes the transaction after you win the first auction. What steps does the seller take to complete the transaction?

Step 4: Leave feedback

Once you receive your item, you can leave sellers an overall positive, neutral, or negative rating, as well as anonymous Detailed Seller Ratings (or DSRs) in four areas related to a transaction.

DSRs will be crucially important for you when you start selling on eBay because they help determine how high your items get listed in the search results. They also determine whether you achieve or maintain PowerSeller status.

Consider these four DSR areas when you analyze your eBay buying experience:

Did the item meet your expectations and was it as described in the auction listing?

Did the seller email you after the auction, or did you have to contact them? What was their general communication with you like?

How long did it take for your item to arrive?

Were the shipping and handling charges fair? How did you react to the way the item was packed for shipping?

Were you pleased with the overall level of customer service?

Again, record these impressions in your notes or journal. If you were really pleased with the buying process you experienced with one particular seller, write down what they did and try to do it yourself when you start running your own auctions.

That’s it. As you can see, buying on eBay to learn to sell on eBay is a bit different than browsing as a shopper. So pay attention and use what you learned as a springboard to your selling success!

Remember, maintaining a good Detailed Seller Rating will be crucial to how well you make money selling on ebay… so it pays to learn to sell on eBay from the best.

As a buyer, you expect prompt, polite, and honest communication from any seller — so as a seller, you’ll need to develop the habits and skills that let you provide those benefits to your buyers.

Today, it possible to do as much shopping as you want on the internet. You don’t need to go to a shopping mall to buy products since you can shop on the internet. You can check out many products and compare prices in the comfort of your own home on the internet.

Shopping on the internet has therefore made buying convenient. However, buying goods on the internet is different from buying in a shop where you can touch the product or even try it on. This articles outlines some of the main risks associated with buying on the internet.

The product may not meet your expectations or may be of poor quality. While buying on Ebay, you are relying on the description provided by the seller or any photos of the products that are on the website.  Because you can’t see the product in real life before you pay for it, sometimes when the product is delivered you may discover that it’s not what you expected.

There is a risk that the seller is not reliable. While buying on Ebay, you have to believe that the seller is trustworthy; has the product as described on Ebay, and that they will ship it to you after you have paid for it. Although most sellers are reliable, some sellers fail to ship the product to the customer or the product they ship is not exactly what they described on Ebay. Of course you can’t be certain that every seller you will deal with is trustworthy, and you simply have to believe that they will be reliable and that they are trustworthy. Ebay allows sellers to be reviewed, so if you buy on Ebay on a regular basis, you may consider buying from sellers with good feedback.

Some sellers fail to communicate with their customers. It’s possible that after you have paid for something, and if you have questions regarding the product, the seller may not answer your emails.

There is a risk that even if the seller ships the product, your product may be lost in transit to you or may be damaged. Although this risk is minimal, it can happen.

It’s fun and convenient buying on Ebay. You must however be aware of these risks so that you can successfully shop on Ebay.
